June is celebrated as Pride Month in honor of the Stonewall riots, which took place in New York City in 1969.The riots are widely considered to be the start of the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement.Since then, Pride marches have been held annually in cities around the world.It is a time to celebrate the progress that has been made in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights, but it is also a time to remember the work that still needs to be done.
This June, here are two movies you can watch on Netflix.
First on the list is an upcoming movie Eldorado: Everything the Nazis Hate, the trailer appears to show a glimpse into the glitzy , loud and fun nightclub Eldorado where everything is right.
“Eldorado: Everything the Nazis Hate” is an upcoming documentary movie directed by Benjamin Cantu, director and writer known for his previous movie Harvest (2011) which explored the relationship between two young men in the backdrop of an agricultural setup in Berlin.
Eldorado: Everything the Nazis Hate is a 2023 documentary film about the Eldorado nightclub in Berlin, Germany, which was a popular gathering place for the LGBTQ+ community in the 1920s. The film explores the freedoms that the Eldorado provided for its patrons, as well as the threats that they faced from the Nazis, who came to power in Germany in 1933.The film is said to feature interviews with historians, activists and also includes archival footage of the nightclub and its patrons.
The film first premiered at Berlin International Film Festival and is all set to release on June 28th, 2023.
Second on the list you can look out for is, the 2020 coming of age movie “ The Half of It “ directed by Alice Wu. The beauty of this movie is the simplicity the film maker employed.The story doesn't try to leave you with messages or give you a preaching, it just naturally weaves a simple tale of a young teen, Ellie as she accepts her sexuality and her reality as an immigrant in the US. Even the concepts of romantic and platonic love and friendship was also well handled in this movie and leaves you with a feeling of satisfaction at the end.
