In 2022, you will see the viscount and his new love interest.
A series based on the strict social mores of early 19th century London narrated by Julie Andrews' voice would be a lot more compelling than "a feminist, steamy take on social mores." That's the premise of Bridgerton, Shonda Rhimes' first Netflix series, which premiered on Dec. 25, 2020. In its first month, 82 million households viewed it, making it Netflix's biggest hit yet. Those who possess less obsessive tendencies and a wider variety of television tastes may think that eight and a half hours of longing glances, illicit affairs, empire-waist gowns, and queenly proclamations would satisfy any period drama fan. A second season of the Shondaland masterpiece is already in production (more on that in a moment), with seasons three and four already confirmed and being planned out by the geniuses over at Shondaland, as well as a limited prequel series.
Bridgerton Has Been Renewed For A Season 2
Indeed! The second season of Bridgerton was renewed by Netflix on January 21. Shooting for season 2 began in the spring of 2021. Seasons 3 and 4 have also been renewed, but they have not yet begun filming. Filming on the second season began in the spring of 2021, but was halted in mid-July following an outbreak of COVID-19 on set. The show resumed filming in mid-August, with showrunner Chris Van Dusen adding that at least the first couple of episodes are currently in post-production. A year after the release of season one, fans were hoping the second season would be released by Christmas 2021. However, Netflix announced in September 2021 that it would not be released until 2022.
What Will Bridgerton Season Two Be About?
For the show's creators and viewers, the series of romance novels by Julia Quinn can provide plenty of intel on the Bridgerton family. The Bridgerton novels include eight books, each focusing on one of the offspring - who were, by the way, alphabetized in alphabetical order from A to H. Quinn also published two collections of Lady Whistledown's writings and five short novellas that serve as sequels to each of the books; besides all of that, Quinn has recently revealed that she is also working on a prequel that will paint a picture of the Bridgertons as children, because she understands that there is no such thing as too much Bridgerton. Quinn's original The Duke & I novella centered around the eldest Bridgerton daughter, Daphne, who is seeking a husband who offers passion and high status, while obtaining them by means of a fake betrothal which becomes all too real. Therefore, a second season would be inspired by the second book, The Viscount Who Loved Me. In that story, Anthony Bridgerton, the eldest Bridgerton, goes on a quest for love. Anthony's fiancée's intimidating and overprotective sister reluctantly warms up to the "consummate rake" - perhaps a little too much.
The cast of season 2 is passing the torch to Jonathan Bailey, who plays Anthony, and that will be the main storyline and plot arc of the second season, said Phoebe Dynevor, who plays Daphne Bridgerton. Fans of the books were probably more aware of that happening than fans of the show. The show revolves around the Bridgertons, and there are eight books in the series. In an interview with Variety, Van Dusen said: "We pick up Anthony after we've seen what he's been through with his mistress. It made him wonder, ‘Was that love?love?love? ’ Some might call it that, others may not. This is a continuation of our discussions of duty and honor."
Who Will Play Anthony Bridgerton's Love Interest In Bridgerton Season 2?
Simone Ashley will join the Bridgerton cast as Kate Sharma on Netflix. Ashley is best known for her role as Olivia in the Netflix series Sex Education. Her heroine Kate Sheffield is a savvy, headstrong young woman who made no mistake about Anthony Bridgerton's character in the book series. According to Deadline, Chris Van Dusen shared extra details about Kate and Anthony's relationship with the Today Show in January, calling it "sweeping and moving and as beautiful as the viewers of the first season have come to expect from the show." "We ended the first season with Anthony at a crossroads, so I'm looking forward to hearing how he copes with life after marriage."
Netflix introduced viewers to Kate and her family, her mother, Mary, and her sister, Edwina, with a still from the first episode of the second season. According to the official description, Kate is the "most meddlesome woman to grace a London ballroom." Here, Lady Danbury ushers the newly-inducted members of the gentry into a party.
First Look For Bridgerton Season 2
It's back and stronger than ever! As seen in the first trailer for the new season, a sideburn-less Anthony Bridgerton is taken down a notch by Kate Sharma, who overheard him outlining his "many requirements for a wife, loud enough for everyone to hear." As Kate snaps at Anthony: "Your horsemanship is as deficient as your ego." While it's unclear how Anthony will manage to impress the new talk of the ton, one thing is certain: their chemistry is beyond comparison. Will Daphne And Simon's Love Story Continue In Season Two?
Sadly, no. Regé-Jean Page as Simon Bassett will not be returning as Simon Bassett even though they had a happy ending at the end of season one. Phoebe Dynevor will reprise her role as Daphne, however, at least for the rest of the season. In an interview with The Wrap, Simon said: "I see him being referred to a lot.". We'll probably see the baby. The story will focus more on her relationship with the Bridgerton family... Now that she is a grown woman, she can make more decisions and be more in control." Nicola Coughlan, who portrays Penelope Featherington in the show, explained that Daphne will have a major role in season two."Daphne's relationship with Anthony is so good, and Anthony has invested himself so much in her and the Duke that she will want to do what he's doing. She is going to figure out what's going on," Daphne said.
For Season Two, What New Characters Can We Expect?
- Simone Ashley in the role of Kate Sharma
- Edwina Sharma is a debutante in search of a true love match, played by Charithra Chandran (Alex Rider).
- Lady Mary Sharma, the mother of Kate and Edwina, will be played by Shelley Conn (Liar).
- Theo Sharpe will play Calam Lynch (Benediction), a hardworking printer's assistant.
- A new character who isn't from the books has a connection to one of Bridgerton's most prominent families, played by Rupert Young (Dear Evan Hansen).
- Edgar Bridgerton, the patriarch of the Bridgerton family and the father of the siblings, will be played by Rupert Evans. Edmund will likely play a prominent role in Anthony's flashbacks, since his death had a profound effect on Anthony. The final shot of the first season shows a bee, a reference to how Edmund died (an allergic reaction to stings) and a promise that Edmund will play an important role in Anthony's season 2. As a result of her popularity in season one, Queen Charlotte, who didn't appear in the original Bridgerton books, will get her own spin-off show. Written by Shonda Rhimes herself, the untitled limited series will follow the journey of Charlotte; it will also feature Violet Bridgerton and Lady Danbury.
