Series: My Name (Mai Neim) Released: 15 October 2021, On Netflix Creator: Kim Ba-da, Kim Jin-Min Director: Kim Jin-Min Cast: Han So-hee, Park He-Soon, Ahn Bo-Hyun, Rich Ting, Sang-ho Kim This month Netflix's top watched show has been Squid Game. But another Korean show is quickly climbing its way up to the top. My Name is a Korean action thriller drama. It is an 8 part series that premiered on Netflix on 15th October and has garnered as many views as the Squid Game. The story follows a young girl, Jiwoon who witnesses her father being brutally assassinated in front of her eyes. Even though her father was not around for much parenting, Jiwoon was still concerned about his whereabouts, desperately waiting for him to turn up on her birthday. Before she could open the door he is killed by a masked man. At her father's funeral, she discovers that her father worked for a drug cartel, Dongcheon. Mu-jin who heads this crime syndicate takes Jiwoon under his wing when she expresses her fierce desire to kill those who were responsible for her father's murder. Cue the impressive and violent fight training. Mu-jin makes sure that Jiwoon is trained to kill and eventually turns her into a cold, shrewd, killing machine. And when he feels she is ready, he places a police gun in her hand, informing her that whoever killed her father belonged in the police force. Jiwoon changes her name and enters the police force as a double agent for Mu-jin. In her search for her father's murderer Jiwoon battles with two-faced police officers, other deadly gangsters, and a partner who for obvious reasons doesn't trust her. My Name, even though has a very cliched plot, there is nothing obvious about it. With gripping twists and turns, the plot only keeps getting more with each episode. Han So-hee plays Jiwoon with so much conviction and her fights and action sequences are just astounding. Park Hee-soon plays the character of the drug kingpin and later Jiwoon's mentor is sophisticated and dangerous. My Name is gripping, thrilling, emotional, and full of shocking turns. It is a thrilling story of how a daughter is willing to lose her soul, her name, and become a monster to avenge her father's murder. By SB
