BLOOD SISTERS: FINALLY, A NOLLYWOOD SERIES THAT LIVES UP TO THE HYPE

This show promises to take viewers on a thrilling experience as it takes a fresh approach to how African stories are told. On May 5, Netflix launched Nigerian drama mini-series Blood Sisters. Sarah and Kemi (Ini Dima-Okojie and Nancy Isime) are best friends whose lives are changed forever by the disappearance of Sarah's wealthy, powerful fiancé, Kola (Deyemi Okanlawon). Every episode of the series runs for approximately 60 minutes and is directed by Temidayo Makanjuola.

There Are A Lot Of Devastating Events And Twists In Blood Sisters

Blood Sisters is a four-part drama series in Nigeria about two best friends whose friendship is tested by violence, abuse, and betrayal. As the first episode begins, there is a flashback. Thrilling is the word to describe Blood Sisters. This series will hook you from the first episode. Topics such as domestic abuse, sexual assault, and women empowerment are discussed. Among the show's notable cast members are Ini Dima-Okojie, Nancy Isime, and Deyemi Okanlawon. Several perspectives are told in this story, each of the characters dealing with their unique problems and history with other characters. All of them have some connection, such as having gone to school together or having friends in common, or growing up together in the same neighborhood. We gain a better understanding of why people act the way they do now and why they made certain decisions in the past or continue to make bad decisions now that will have serious consequences down the road.

Trauma Impacts Victims, Perpetrators in Blood Sisters

Despite setting a dark tone, the opening scene introduces the characters and the situation in a straightforward way. After the second episode, the pace slows down a bit as the focus is on character development and backstory, as opposed to plot. It’s well written, beautifully shot and incredibly acted by an ensemble cast of talented actors from Nigeria. It’s abIn the following episodes, more emphasis is placed on developing characters and backstories than web of lies, corruption and murder. Since each episode develops its characters by dialogue rather than action, it isn't easy to binge-watch. However, once you get past that, you'll be rewarded with an engaging story about friendship and betrayal that suggests important social issues such as spousal abuse and sexual assault - topics often neglected in Nigerian films and television. Despite the fact that it doesn't start off strongly, it ends strongly. There are many mysteries in Blood Sisters. What happened and why Kola was killed are the central mysteries. Was he married for money or love? How did he come to have so many enemies? Did his death have more to it than we thought?

Love, Loss And Betrayal Are Openly Explored In Blood Sisters Series

Sarah and Kemi are introduced as young girls who grew up together in an orphanage and have been best friends ever since. Many of the shots of Lagos are beautiful, and the cinematography is outstanding. All the actors perform well. There are many aspects of the story that are gripping and shocking, particularly if you are not familiar with Nigerian culture and politics. There is a lot going on here, but some flashbacks help you follow along. This show isn't about one incident of spousal abuse in Nigeria - it's about how deep-rooted and systemic this problem is.

Stream It Or Skip It?

It's hard to beat Blood Sisters. It features an ensemble cast of talented actors from Nigeria and is extremely well written, beautifully shot, and incredibly acted. There is a lot of danger and intrigue in this dark, sexy drama. It has a complex, enthralling plot. The story is filled with twists and turns that keep you guessing until the very end. Secrets within secrets and lies within lies will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the story.
